Natural Toothpastes… What’s really in them.

Written by Concerned

After learning of the toxic chemicals found in normal toothpastes from  companies such as Crest, Colgate, and other top brands, we decided to switch to a more natural and SAFE toothpaste. So off to the health food store we went to browse for something safe, healthy and that tasted good. Now with any product you will have to do  some testing to see what flavour/taste you like as each is different. We decided to try Toms of Maine Natural Flouride Free Baking Soda toothpaste. Being a Natural product as they state we figured it was safe and no harmful chemicals were in it. After a few days of using it while sitting on the throne I decided to read the label to compare it to Crest toothpaste. To my surprise i found sodium lauryl sulfate in it. Wow! Was I surprised! A company that claims to use natural safe ingredients is putting SLS in there toothpaste just like Colgate and Crest. What a scham I thought. Immediately I through the tube in the garbage and off to there website I went to send them my thoughts. While on there site I came across a page of info that argues the fact that SLS is safe. I don’t see how they can argue this when there is so much evidence on its toxic effects on humans.

So my message here is a simple one. Just because a company claims to be all natural or organic. Doesn’t mean they are not using harmful or toxic chemicals in there products. The best way to product yourself and loved ones is to learn to read the ingredients on everything you buy. Learn what some of those big words are and you will lead a healthier life.

One of our favorite products for toothpaste is from the company J/A/S/O/N/. There toothpaste is massively minty  fresh and beats colgate or crests flavour any day. My wife and kids both love it as do I. Another toothpaste I use is from NOW. It is there Xylitol based Cinnamon flavoured baking soda toothpaste. THe booth  do a great job and  don’t poison my family either.  My hats off to J/A/S/O/N/ and NOW for doing a great job!

Remember… read the ingredients in everything you buy. If they don’t list them. Don’t buy it and watch out for ingredients like “flavour” or “perfume” as it could include a number of things.
